I made the mistake of flipping on Bravo this morning. There's a woman getting advice on dating(?) from another lady, an "expert." The expert told her that she laughs too much and not to do that out loud because it "interrupts the narrative."

You have to have a narrative on a date? What if you just want to see a movie and have dinner?  Aren't you supposed to laugh when it's appropriate?

...the narrative?

Sounds like someone's learned a bit of Fiction Writing 101 or Game Theory and is applying it like a hammer to every nail they can find.

Seriously: If the woman's laughing, I've either done something horribly stupid and/or embarrassing, or I just succeeded in telling a good joke. Sometimes a guffaw is just a guffaw...

That was my first thought as well. :)

See, I always thought people should connect on a humor level, in addition to all other measures of compatibility. If I'm not laughing, it's not going to last. A joke can tell you a ton about the person telling it.
